Three notorious kidnappers met their waterloo in the flood-ravaged
city of Anambra yesterday as the State Anti robbery Squad (SARS) ended
their operation, killing three of them and arresting six others after a
fire exchange that lasted for over 60 minutes.
According to the state Police Command, at a briefing in Awka, the
state capital, two of the victims of the kidnappers, Rev. Fr. C. Okoye
of Archdiocese of Onitsha and one Onyekwelu Jonathan Eledu, were rescued
by the police.
It was disclosed that the subdued suspects were members of the
heartless gang that had been terrorising the state as led by the late
Olisa Ifedika, AKA Ofeakwu.
Ifedika’s house at Oraifite in Ekwusigo local government area had since been razed completely.
The dreaded gang were said to have demanded a ransom from the family of the cleric before nemesis caught up with them.
The police also said it had nabbed other 14 armed robbery suspects in
the state since October 1, 2012, while two other robbery suspects were
killed in a gun duel.
Items such as two- AK 47 riffles, one rocket launcher, one rocket,
four rocket propellers, 18 AK 47, magazines and 300 rounds of 7.62mm
live ammunition were recovered.
According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Raphael
Uzoigwe, the operatives are working round the clock to eliminate
terrorism from the country.
